Autopilot driving can lead to personal injury incidents

When a driver gets behind the wheel of a vehicle, he or she has the responsibility to be as safe as reasonably possible. Drivers should be attentive and aware of the things happening around them, but unfortunately, not all Louisiana drivers do that. Instead, polls indicate that a surprisingly high number of drivers are actually zoned out while on the road. Inattentive drivers are dangerous, and they lead to an increase in the likelihood of a personal injury accident occurring.

Zombie driving is a term used to describe when happens when a person is driving and arrives at his or her destination but has no recollection of how he or she got there. Approximately 40 percent of drivers polled stated that they were guilty of zombie driving at least some of the time. This is more likely to occur when a driver is familiar with the roads, tired or thinking about other things.

Mental distraction is a very real and very dangerous type of distracted driving. While a driver’s hands may be on the wheel and his or her eyes on the road, it is possible that the focus is on something else entirely. This is dangerous, and drivers should take steps to make sure they keep their focus on the road.

When people are injured due to the actions of an inattentive driver, they may have grounds to seek compensation through a personal injury claim. It’s not always easy for a Louisiana reader to know what to do after an accident, and it may help to discuss the case with an experienced legal advocate. Distracted driving in all forms is dangerous and unacceptable.
