Serious drunk driving accident leads to personal injury

Drunk driving is a reckless, inexcusable behavior that places everyone on the road at risk for a serious or fatal injury. A recent accident in Louisiana emphasized the dangers of driving while under the influence and the impact it can have on innocent motorists. In this specific personal injury incident, multiple people suffered physical harm. One young teenager passed away later from his injuries. The driver responsible for this tragedy is facing various charges.

Several people were traveling on U.S. Hwy 167 in a Jeep Liberty when the drunk driver, behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado, hit the vehicle from behind. The force of the impact sent the Jeep Liberty off the road and into a ditch where it hit an embankment. It appears that all occupants inside the vehicle suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital for emergency medical attention.

The driver of the Silverado was arrested at the scene of the accident. A law enforcement officer suspected the man was intoxicated, and his breath test results indicated his BAC was 0.115 percent. Some of the criminal charges he is now facing include reckless operation of a motor vehicle, DWI, no seat belt and more.

When a drunk driver causes injury to other Louisiana motorists, the injured parties have the right to seek compensation for their pain and suffering through a personal injury claim. Through legal action, it is possible to hold negligent and reckless drivers accountable for causing harm to another person. After a crash, an accident victim may find it helpful to seek a complete evaluation of his or her case.
